The course will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge to perform First Aid on a casualty. The course is a combination of self-paced online learning which takes approximately 3 hours, followed by a 2 hour face to face assessment.

You are required to complete the online learning before attending the face practical assessment.

Course Overview

With instruction and practical training in line with legal, workplace and community considerations, Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines and other Australian national peak clinical bodies, this first aid course teaches the skills and knowledge to recognise emergencies and provide immediate and effective first aid treatment to any person suffering a sudden illness or injury.

The course covers assessing the casualty, providing safety, accessing emergency services, and using resources to provide first aid, such as providing CPR and using a defibrillator, administering an auto injector for anaphylaxis, administering asthma medication, assisting someone choking, using appropriate immobilisation techniques for envenomation, fractures, dislocations, sprains and strains, managing casualties with non-life-threatening bleeding and shock.

You will learn basic anatomy, physiology and the differences between adults, children and infants relating to CPR, the importance of the chain of survival, written and verbal reporting of incident details, reviewing incidents to improve own skills and response times, to recognise psychological impacts, and seeking help as required.

Qualifications Issued

On successful completion of the course students will be issued with a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for:
HLTAID009 - Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
HLTAID010 - Provide basic emergency life support
HLTAID011 - Provide First Aid
It is recommended that the First Aid component be renewed every 3 years, in line with industry standards. It is recommended that the LVR and CPR component be renewe devery 12 months in line with Australian Resuscitation guidelines.

The LVR & CPR Certificate is issued by our TrainingPartner, Allens Training Pty Ltd RTO #90909

Assessment activities

Performance tasks and scenarios:
  • Manage a casualty with anaphylaxis
  • Manage a casualty with asthma
  • Manage a choking casualty
  • Manage a casualty with non-life-threatening bleeding and shock, requiring minor wound cleaning
  • Manage a casualty with a nosebleed
  • Manage a casualty with a fracture and dislocation
  • Manage a casualty with envenomation (snake/ funnel-web spider bite)
  • Perform CPR on an adult (incl.the use of an AED and placing a casualty into the recovery position)
  • Complete a first aid incident report form based on the simulated first aid scenario
  • Perform CPR on an infant

Entry requirements

  • Physical capability to be able to meet the demands of the practical demonstration skills including CPR (Important note: In order to issue an accredited certificate CPR must be performed on the floor with no exemptions)
  • Sufficient English language, literacy, numeracy and visual interpretation skills to successfully complete the course
  • If required, students must complete the online pre-course work prior to attending the in-person session depending on the course delivery mode
  • Online study: Students must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet or other electronic device with access to the internet to complete the online/ pre-course studies.
  • Valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) required prior to course commencement. Click here for more information on setting up a USI if you don’t have one.

To ensure you can successfully complete the LVR & CPR Course we ask the following:
Bring your mobile device and remember your Training Desk Login details that have been provided to you
  • Arrive 10 minutes prior to the course start time. Late arrivals will not be allowed to attend the course.
  • Wear appropriate attire including enclosed shoes.
  • Ensure you have verified your USI
  • 100% completion of the online learning material prior to arrival
  • Provide photo ID upon entry
Students unable to meet the above requirements on the day will have to reschedule in-person training.

Rescheduling & Cancellation Policy

We understand that unforeseen circumstances may require in-person course bookings to be rescheduled. To reschedule an in-person course, please email us at admin@etatraining.com.au

If we receive your reschedule request 2 or more business days prior to a course, no fees will apply.

If you withdraw less than 2 days prior to your course, or fail to turn up on the day of your training, no refunds can be given.

All requested changes to a booking must be made in writing. In the event of a cancellation request by a customer, a voucher will be issued to the value of the amount paid. This voucher can be used to book any future courses with us.

How long after completing the course do I get my First Aid certificate?

In most cases, First Aid certification will be issued electronically within 24 hours of successful course completion. However, in rare cases, there may be delays processing your grades in which case your certificate may be later than 24 hours. If you are not successful in completing the course, you will not receive a certificate.

How long does First Aid certification last?

The Safe Work Australia Code of Practice recommends refreshing your First Aid qualifications every 3 years.

How often do you run the First Aid course?

We run the First-Aid courses twice a week at our Kewdale training facility. All dates and start times are available on on the course calendar page.

What’s the difference between the First Aid Course and the CPR Course?

When you successfully complete the First Aid course you will be awarded the following unit of competency:
